“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The great commission of Jesus Christ is to go into all the nations, making disciples, baptizing, and teaching them to obey his commandments. Therefore, it is our aim to go and preach Christ where He is not already known, not building on another’s foundation but preaching Christ in unreached areas, baptizing and discipling new converts, and ultimately, raising up indigenous leaders to carry the banner of Christ to their own people.
Because we recognize the commandment not just to preach Christ but also to make disciples, we train up local people as elders and missionaries who understand the language and the culture of the people. A full-time indigenous leader and his family can be commissioned, sent out, and provided for at the cost of about $400 a month. This means that not only are indigenous leaders more effective at reaching their own culture, they are also more cost effective.
On trips to the various places S.O.S. serves in, we come alongside these local leaders to encourage them and engage in the ministries that they find to be the most important at the moment, because they understand the times and the current need.
We have found this Biblical pattern of church planting to be extremely effective, and hundreds are coming to faith in the three overseas fields in which S.O.S. serves.
So how can I help?
1. Sign up for our newsletter to keep updated on the things the Lord is doing
2. Pray for our local leaders, that God would protect and encourage them in their difficult fields of ministry
3. Commit to support a local leader financially
4. Come on a missions trip to visit and encourage these men who are working hard in the Lord
